Nutrition for Endurance Athletes

At the May 4th club meeting, Tracy Bonoffski gave a talk on nutrition for the endurance athletes. Click the following link for her notes. Tracy is available for nutritional counseling  by emailing her at tbonoffs@uncc.edu.

For a great book on sports nutrition, check out Sports Nutrition for Endurance Athletes by Monique Ryan.

White Lake Race Results

No hardware this weekend for QCTC but it wasn’t for a lack of trying.  We had 6 members complete the White Lake Half-Iron and 5 complete the White Lake Sprint.  Congratulations especially to Tommy Mitchell who finished in an awesome 5:00:13, good for 54th overall out of 570 men.  Also, congratulations to Keith Anderson and Eric Morrison who finished their first Half-Iron distance races.  White Lake is a great place for a race–clean, clear lake along with a nearly flat bike and run course.

White Lake HIM:
Tommy Mitchell 5:00:13
Davis Peacock 5:29:06
John Cantrell 5:49:14
Keith Andersen 6:05:08

Don’t forget that we have a club meeting THIS SUNDAY MAY 4th, from 4pm-6pm at the Dilworth Neighborhood Grill.  Come out and find out what’s going on with your tri club as well as spend some time getting to know many of our new members.  We will also have a special guest speaker.  Tracy Bonoffski is a faculty member in the UNCC Kinesiology Department and will be providing us with some great information on the proper nutrition for a triathlete.

MAP Results

Wonderful Weather at MAPCongratulations to everyone who survived the pouring rain and brief hailstorm during Saturday’s MAP Sprint Tri in Huntersville.  Queen City Members took home 3 awards–Alice Howard, 3rd Place, Women’s 40-44; Annabet Morris, 3rd Place Athena, and Davis Peackock, 2nd Place, Men’s 23-29.  In all, 22 members competed in Saturday’s race.

Come out and join us as the Queen City Tri Club participates in the nation’s only 24 hr cancer fundraiser.  Visit the 24 Hrs of Booty site and join our team.   Just enter the password triathlete and you’ll be ready to go.  Registration is only $45 and each participant must raise $150.  You’ll have access to a 3 mile closed loop (the Booty Loop) and unlimited food and drink during the event.  All you have to do is show up and ride!  This year, the event has been limited to 1200 participants (last year was nearly 2000!).  Over 400 have already registered.  Don’t miss out.

When?
The excitement starts Friday, July 25, 2008 at 7PM and ends Saturday, July 26, 2008 at 7PM (we weren’t lyin’ - that’s 24 solid hours of cancer-kicking, communal- camping, booty-bonding fun).

Where again?
Charlotte’s one-and-only Booty Loop, located around the Queens University of Charlotte campus in the heart of the Queen City’s tree-lined Myers Park neighborhood.

How do I get started?
General registration for the 2008 event is now OPEN.  Put on your party pants! (Or bike shorts.  Whatever.) Click one of the links above to register.

How much does it cost?
Registration fee: $45 per participant.
The chance to make a difference: Priceless.

How do I register a team?
Team captains must create and submit an official team name before either the team captain or other team members can register as members of the team. (Makes sense, right? After all, you don’t want to join something without knowing what you’re called. So get crafty and get crackin’!). Each team is given a primary online fundraising page, and each team member also receives his or her own fundraising page. This way, not only can you direct your friends and family to your own story but your entire team won’t have to be subjected to the detailed saga of your teammate Jim’s saddle sores. Ready to register? Click here to register as a team captain. Desperate to know more? Visit the Teams page for more information.

How do I manage my account?
Each participant will receive a personal fundraising account and fundraising page. This enables family, friends, co-workers and secret admirers across town and across the country to donate to your fund-raising account online. No aggravating stamps to purchase or icky envelope seals to lick. Could it get any easier?

Let’s Go Racing!

For nearly half the club, it’s time for the first race of the year.  We’re looking forward to an exciting day of racing this Saturday, March 29th at the MAP Sprint.  We have 22 members participating and we’re expecting great things out of everyone.  If you’re not racing, come out and cheer on our members, many of whom will be completing their first ever race!
